Redundant 5-axis Inertial Measurement with Automatic Fault Detection and Isolation

The weIMU-5 is a 5-axis inertial measurement unit with MEMS gyroscopes and accelerometers. The chosen sensor configuration allows the detection and automatic isolation of a faulty gyroscope and/or accelerometer. The sensors are mounted on a precisely machined pentagonal pyramid core made of aluminum. Selectable output formats are inertial data (body-related three axis angular rate and specific force) or sensor data (angular rate and specific force of all sensors). The output sample rate is also selectable at 60Hz or 120Hz. The unit outputs its data simultaneously on two RS-232 interfaces with 115.2kbit/s. One of the serial ports is used for configuration purposes via a terminal emulation program. Output sampling frequency and output format can be set in service mode. The service mode allows the user to access various diagnostic information which is kept in a non-volatile memory. The unit is powered by a single or dual +12V supply. The unit features a redundant power supply for the internal +5V and +3.3V supply.
